The 30 Day Writing Challenge, Day #1 – 3

Thirty days of insight, explanations, nostalgia and excerpts from my writing life.

I came across a thing on Twitter the other day that looked too fun to pass up: The Thirty Day Writing Challenge (#TDWC). It asked 30 questions about your writing, and you were supposed to answer 1 question for each day of the month. I had decided to start answering these questions in March, but I am already nearly 3 days behind.

So today I will post answers to the first 3 questions, and hopefully remember to post my answers every day for the rest of the month. It’s a pretty full month, though, so if I miss some days, I’ll post a few answers at a time to catch up like I’m doing today instead!

I’ll also probably post these answers on Twitter at some point, since they are really meant to be posted there, but for now, I prefer to drop them here!

#1 A one-sentence summary of the first story you ever wrote:

I can’t remember the first story I ever wrote. (I’ve always been making stories.) But the first one I can remember would be summarized as: “Love conquers all.”

#2 A one-sentence summary of your current WIP:

Fighting the forces of a global government, members of an underground organization sworn to keep secrets hidden, and deeply held prejudices against each other, Pavel and Vince embark on an impossible quest that will force each to question not only their own personal convictions about their civilization as they know it, but their emerging feelings for each other, and which will, ultimately, determine if the world once more returns to war …

#3 A trope in your genre that gets on your nerves:

I have a lot of genres, so I’ll name tropes in my current 3 genres that annoy me:

DYSTOPIAN: The dystopian world is always caused by a nuclear war
THRILLER: The bad guys monologue just long enough for the good guy to escape/be saved
ROMANCE (as part of a spec fic plot): Somehow the main characters find the time to have sex in the middle of a battle or some other very odd and unrealistic time frame

That is all for today! If you are a writer or reader, feel free to comment with your own answers!

And stay tuned for more throughout this month!
