30 Facts about my 50k Words in November

This post idea comes from A Girl Who Writes, who tagged me in her post in a tricksy attempt to con me into doing this very thing!  I suppose it worked.  Lol.

I know I have been super quiet around here for the past month, but I did, indeed, WIN NaNoWriMo, having written 50,327 words in 30 days!  I posted a few excerpts throughout November from the NaNo WIP – if you happened to miss them, check out the Writing Prompt Wednesday category and you’ll find them there easily enough!

Things will get back to normal starting next week, but in the meantime, here are 30 Facts about my NaNoWriMo Novel, one fact for each day of November!  If you would like to share 30 facts about your own NaNo novel (or your non-NaNo novel, even), feel free to link them in the comments so I can check them out, too!

Here we go!

30 FACTS ABOUT MY 50K WORDS:

1. The current working title is “The Good Thing”, but I’m considering retitling it “Silver Sky”.  Jury’s still out on that one…

2. There are two male leads: Vince Dannel and Pavel Sokolov.

3. During NaNo, I wrote 8 chapters (well, two of those were more like complete rewrites), for a total of 50,327 words.

4. It is a not-too-far-future science fiction story. (Think Almost Human level tech. Oh and if you aren’t watching that show – WHY THE HELL NOT?!?)

5. The book features a world-wide government, aka, one government to rule them all.

6. Vince Dannel’s job is to make babies. And not the test-tube kind of babies. Yes, really.

7. Pavel Sokolov’s job is as some kind of Network Systems Engineer for an urban design company… haven’t quite nailed down all the details on that one yet. (Shuddup… it’s a rough draft!)

8. There is a character in the book named Flea.

9. No, I had NO IDEA there was a member of the Red Hot Chili Peppers who called himself Flea, seriously. Until very recently.

10. No, I am not going to change the character’s name because of that.

11. Most of the story takes place in two cities, Una Primus and Una Duo (though  names are subject to change in final draft).

12. During November, I had NO LIFE. I also did scarcely any house work, laundry, dishes, making of food, buying of food, etc. Hell, I was lucky to shower! It’s all about sacrifices…

13. The capitol city of North America is Una Primus, which I imagine in this draft to be sitting pretty right where Kansas City, Missouri is now.

14. That has everything to do with the fact it’s smack in the middle of the continent, and nothing to do with the fact I live in the area. Yup. Totally.

15. The weather has changed in Missouri somewhat by the start of my story…

16. The premise of this story has been compared to a commonly-banned classic.

17. No, I’m not going to tell you which one to prevent you from forming biases in case you ever actually read it.

18. No, it’s definitely NOT the same story as that commonly-banned classic, although there are a very few loose parallels.

19. Yes, I’m actually quite proud of the fact my book might one day be banned – banning books just makes people want to read them more!

20. The theme song for the entire novel is “Silver Lining” by Hurts.

21. This novel started out trying to be a romance with a science fiction setting, but has since drifted into a science fiction story with a romantic subplot.

22. Some of my characters will and do die.

23. Vince Dannel is 35 years old.

24. Pavel Sokolov is 28 years old.

25. Another great song for this book is “Ready Aim Fire” by Imagine Dragons.

26. I plan on this book being the first in a trilogy, though it can also stand alone.

27. I’m actually not sure if Vince will find redemption by the end…

28. The book’s character Evelyn Carter was named after the song “Evelyn” by Hurts, which is also a great mood-setting song for this story.

29. Yes, Hurts has a LOT of songs I LOVE, and a lot of them are on this novel’s playlist!

30. I had hoped to finish this rough draft during NaNo, but it’s turning out much longer than I had anticipated. My new goal is to have the rough draft complete by January 31st, 2014.

NOW IT’S YOUR TURN!

NaNo or not, if you’ve got a novel you’re working on at the moment, whether in first draft stage or revision, come up with 30 facts about it and share, won’t you!?
