Belated Writing Prompt Wednesday: "The Night Before", an original poem.

It’s funny
I don’t remember how
I got roped into this
Half-madness
Full insanity
Hordes of people in neon
running shoes
and princess tutus
ribbons fluttering at the start
ball-gowns and blinking tiaras
All thrown to the curb
by mile five
With a 3am alarm
Long shuttle rides and
Hours in a crowded corral
all before it even begins
Who the hell thought
this was a good idea?
Running
instinctual
therapeutic
Something in your blood
begins singing
It’s all breathing
and pounding feet
13.1
The night before
One of the group
bounces on the balls of her feet
“I’m so excited!” she says
grinning
“Aren’t you excited?!”
I look up at her
Incredulous
“I’m writing a poem about how this sucks.”

What princess are you 😀 Go go go -fill in name here- Run they coming for you. Your prince will be at the finish line.

    And love the poem.

I didn’t dress up as any of them, but I chose Jasmine during my registration because I always liked her sassiness. Hehe. There were a lot people dressed as Rapunzel, Jasmine, Belle, and Ariel. One guy had a shirt that said, “Why are all these Princesses chasing me?” I think that one was my favorite, lol. Several of the guys were also brave enough to dress up like Princesses too. Soooo hilarious.

How’d it go? Did you make it? Can you still move today? 😀

Heheh. Well, I did make it! And I wasn’t near last! And I wasn’t near as exhausted afterward as I’d expected, so all in all I blew away all of my own expectations as far as my performance! Especially since I trained for about three weeks total :P, and only got up to 6 miles max before running the 13.1. BUT… the lack of training meant my knees weren’t really up to speed, so the right one got seriously bad by the end of the race. I couldn’t walk properly for about a week. JUST NOW able to walk normally, really. But you know, it was a lot more fun than I thought it would be. Mostly it’s just the knowledge that I DID IT that made it so awesome. 🙂
