A few days back I was tagged by Melanie Noel Bernard for the 7/7/7 Challenge. I've actually had the pleasure of participating in this challenge a few times now, but usually on the Facebook page instead of the blog. This time, it will be fun to answer and pass along this challenge here, instead! (Not to mention, this is a brand-new excerpt never before shared! Woot!) What is the 7/7/7 challenge? The rules are the following: ❄Go to page 7 of your work-in-progress ❄Scroll down to line ... View Post

Writing Goals: Bait, Fish, and Reel Report for November 2015
And so ends November of 2015. Where in the world did this entire year go!? I'm not sure, either. :P In any event, I did indeed "win" NaNoWriMo, having successfully edited for slightly over 50 hours during the month! (1 hour of focused editing = 1000 words standard NaNo conversion) This was my first year using NaNo to exclusively edit, and while it did seem "easier" to meet the daily quota, it really wasn't as "fun", and it made the accomplishment really not feel like so much of an ... Writing Prompt Wednesday: “Mad Morning”, an original poem in haiku
This is a poem from my upcoming new book of poetry I have planned for publication in May 2016, hopefully in time for Mother's Day! Hope you enjoy! - JRF (to stay up-to-date on releases, join my mailing list here!) Quiet morning, the coffee brewed. Then kids awake, and chaos reigns true. * Breakfast eaten, clothes put on, backpacks collected, all into the ... View Post
6 Ways to Get Unstuck and Hit Your NaNoWriMo Wordcount!
It's NaNoWriMo time, and those of us participating really can't afford a lapse in motivation or a battle with Writer's Block! But it happens to all of us, even the best of us. We lose our motivation to write. We lose the steam that was powering the current project. We get lost in a jungle of disorganized plot. Life happens and we just don’t have the energy to create fictional problems for fictional people. Writer’s Block comes knocking. Resistance and self-sabotage take over. We stop ... View Post
It’s Happening! My Publication Schedule for the Next 4 Months …
Yes, it's happening. "I love it when a plan comes together!" Finally, three (+) years after the date I signed up for my first Writer's Digest Workshop (and received a crash course in craft) and three years after I first buckled down to attempt (and win) my first NaNoWriMo, I am ready to hit the big red button to launch this rickety old rusted and duct-taped contraption I like to call my "writing career" into the wild blue yonder. I have read and researched and learned so much over the last ... View Post
