Dear Diary, I apologize for spilling that gin and tonic ... errr ... glass of Kool-Aid on you the other day. I'm glad you are now dry enough to write in so that I can chronicle the most recent events of this year's July Camp! It has truly been a great Camp so far! I'm happy to report that I, as well as the rest of my bunk mates, have largely stayed on track for the entirety of these past two weeks! There have been bad days, of course, but there have also been great days! In the past seven ... View Post
Camp NaNoWriMo Diaries: Day Eight – Is This Just an Endless Dream?
Dear Diary, Yesterday was Day Eight of Camp. And I wrote nothing. And I edited nothing. And then lying in bed before sleeping, I began to think things, as always. Just before sleep tends to be when I am either the happiest or the most depressed. I either pump myself up over what is to come, or fret about it and stress myself out. Last night was the latter. I did not fret about my non-existent word quota for the day. No. I went larger. Much larger. Because I thought back on a recent ... View Post
Camp NaNoWriMo Diaries: Day Seven – Saved By The Cabin-Mates!
Dear Diary, Yesterday was Day Seven of Camp. And things got a little hairy. The day job duties piled up while the work phone rang off the hook, house-sitting tasks had to be done, extra errands ran, the hound dog wandered off for 24 hours and the sister's toy Pomeranian, which I'm also dog-sitting for the next two weeks, vanished from the yard. Travel plans for this weekend's journey to Nebraska for a wedding still had to be made. There was certainly no time for lunch, much less for working ... View Post
Camp NaNoWriMo Diaries: Day Six – Whereupon I Face My Greatest Fear … Editing
Dear Diary, Yesterday was Day Six of Camp. Due to my decision to enter the Weta Nichols Writing Contest, I thought my Camp goal would switch (hopefully only shortly) to editing the first 2500 words of the first chapter (the contest's maximum limit - my first chapter is closer to 4k words, I think) in preparation for submission. The contest due date is July 15th. Not much time there. So, yesterday, I began those edits, at the standard Camp NaNo conversion rate of 1 hour of editing = 1000 ... View Post
Camp NaNoWriMo Diaries: Day Five – On Which Nothing Was Written
Dear Diary, Yesterday was Day Five of Camp. And I wrote NOTHING. Not a single word. Well, okay, so I wrote a diary entry, but we'll not count that. No progress was made on the novel, at least. I feel slightly guilty, since I left the protagonists in a rather precarious, terribly emotional state. But that's probably better. Easier place to pick up where I left off if it's right in the thick of things. Anyway, I want Pavel to stew for a bit, really think about how he feels about this new ... View Post
Camp NaNoWriMo Diaries: Day Four – Not Another War Novel
Dear Diary, Yesterday was the fourth day of Camp. And, not coincidentally, the fourth of July. As in, the US of A's "birthday", as some people call it. Independence Day, as other people call it. After 32 4th of July's in my life, I can legitimately say that this year's is the first that actually felt like it MEANT something more than a good time and pretty explosions in the sky. Why? I've been trying to figure that out. I don't think it's my aged wisdom (hahah, hilarious, I know), nor ... View Post
