Dear Diary,
Yesterday was Day Three of Camp.
Sure feels like I’m settling into the routine now. And my bunkmates are doing superbly. I’m so proud of all of them! We are rockin’ this thing this year! We are awesome, if I do say so myself!
But yesterday was difficult. It was pre-Independence Day, you see. So it’s a short work week. And that means the same amount of work has to be crammed into fewer days. Not so much fun.
Also, my plan to write over lunch hour was demolished by the company potluck lunch. Not that I’m complaining. It was a delicious lunch full of real home-made KCMO BBQ, coleslaw, potato salad and we even had Oreos and milk for dessert.
Then I really wanted to nap.

But regardless, I knew I couldn’t go to bed that night without getting at least some words in, because since I haven’t actually met the daily quota yet, I was slightly behind.
Therefore, I bit the bullet. After the family had left from the family dinner and the kid was asleep, I set up in the living room armchair and once again blasted the epic music. The day before, I’d written up a short chapter summary paragraph, so at least I didn’t have to start from nowhere. (I highly recommend doing this every time, btw ….)
I wrote 507 words. At that point, the characters were about to divulge into a rather heavy, complex, emotionally charged conversation, and my tired brain wasn’t up for that at 10:30pm, so I called it quits for the night.

Congratulations on your remarkable ability to write after such a day, and with a sleep deficit as well!

Good for you! In cases like that, I tell myself to write one sentence. As long as I have that one, I know I’ve tried.

Good idea! Start simple! 😛
