Not too long ago I was asked by a fellow author to participate in a series of guest posts she would be hosting on her blog about New Year’s Resolutions for 2016.
I promptly began writing up a post about my ambitious writing and publishing goals for the New Year, anxious to share them with her reading audience.
But then I received an email in my own inbox from one of the indie authors I follow, Jeff Goins. And what he said in that email totally stopped me in my tracks, and made me realize something I’d never consciously grasped before …
I will never reach a point in my life where I am completely satisfied.
Never.
No matter what I accomplish, there will always be something more I’d like to do. Something else on the horizon that must be caught.
But you know what? Instead of finding this sudden realization depressing, I found it immensely freeing! Because I realized that it’s really all about your mindset.
My mindset is no longer “If I can just get to X, Y and Z, I’ll be happy.” My mindset is now, “Getting to X, Y and Z is what makes me happy.”
To read the full discovery about my fundamental change in mindset (and how it’s made me immensely happier in the pursuit of my 2016 goals), visit my post on Melanie’s blog here.
How about you? What are some of your 2016 goals? Do you feel you will be happy if you reach your goals, or is it the challenge of reaching for them that really drives you? I’d love to know! Drop me a comment or an email and let’s discuss!
Happy Goal-Reaching, my friends!
