NaNoWriMo Boot Camp Exercises

A Brief Introduction

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away … oh no wait. That’s wrong.

A long time ago, back in 2013 … yes, that’s it! So, a long time ago, back in 2013, after I somewhat miraculously stumbled my way through my very first National Novel Writing Month in 2012 and actually managed to write 50,000 words, I decided to create a series of blog posts for future intrepid NaNoWriMoers in the years to come, so that they would not suffer the mistakes I had made in 2012.

I, myself, followed the instructions I laid out in these blog posts, and NaNoWriMo 2013 proved to be far more efficient and far less stressful than 2012.

I have heard tale from other writers, too, that the steps outlined in these posts proved greatly helpful throughout their NaNoWriMo adventures. That being the case, as 2015 NaNoWriMo now looms on the horizon, I thought it might be most useful to collect these posts and give them their very own section on the site!

The Brief Idea

The idea here is to prepare for NaNoWriMo in November by completing a series of warm-up type plotting and character exercises beforehand, during October (Pantsers, get back here! I have something for you, too!), so that when you sit down to actually start writing your 50k words, you know what the heck is going on with your story already. This will save you OODLES of Writer’s Block during November, I promise.

There is one exercise to complete each week of October. By November 1st, you will be READY.

So, without further ado, I give you the first installment! A link to the 2nd part can be found at the end of the 1st one, and a link for the 3rd at the end of the 2nd, and so on. (Or you can simply use the drop down menu above!)

A Brief Warning

This is called a Boot Camp, and therefore contains Drill Sergeant worthy language. If that type of thing makes your ears burn, please click HERE (coming soon) for the watered down versions.

Thanks for reading and I do hope you find these posts useful! If you do, feel free to share links amongst your friends!
