And so we come to Kashyyk. Where I finally have some time to update this dusty old datapad of mine. Apparantly the Czerka Corp has some lengthy protocol to go through before an unscheduled ship can land. Oh well. Doesn’t bother me. I could use a little self time anyway.
But I suppose I haven’t kept up on this thing since I was recruited by the Republic months ago… crazy. I can’t believe it’s been that long ago, nor can I believe it’s ONLY been that long. So much has happened since that day…
I suppose I should start at the beginning, however…
A few months back I was recruited by the Republic to help aid them in their fight against the ever-growing Sith Empire. Evidently they thought my skills as a scout could help them in some way. I’m not sure exactly what they had in mind, but it’s come to my attention that they must have known SOMETHING about me I didn’t, because I have indeed proven to be useful.
It was a bit odd, at first, as being a scout I wasn’t that well aquainted with the workings of a starship and the military. But it turned out all right… the Endar Spire was a beautiful ship, and the people for the most part were friendly and helpful.
But then the Sith found us, and attacked suddenly and without warning. I was woken from my nap by the explosions of laser fire, and barely made it out of the ship alive. In fact, if it hadn’t been for the help of Carth Onasi, who showed me to the escape pods, I don’t think I would have made it out at all.
But we did escape, just Carth and I in one pod, though we heard of a few others who got out just in time as well. All I remember of that trip was seeing the Endar Spire explode into fiery pieces above us, and then looking down on the surface of the planet Taris, which was rushing up to meet us far more quickly than I would have liked. The pod shot between the city’s skyscrapers, and I suppose we’re lucky we didn’t hit any. We crashed into the street somewhere, but the impact knocked me out.
I had a wierd dream while I was unconscious, but truthfully I’d like not to talk about that yet. I don’t even like remembering it! … Carth woke me up, I guess I’d been out for a few days. He’d set us up in an abandoned apartment somewhere in the South Upper City of Taris. We had been fortunate in one other aspect of our crash: we landed in the Upper City. The Lower City and Undercity were not pretty or safe places to be, as we found out later.
From there, we determined we had two things we had to do: 1)Rescue Bastilia, the Jedi the Republic has placed most of it’s hope in defeating the Sith in, because of her Battle Meditation, which truthfully I still don’t understand… and 2)find a way off Taris, which would be difficult considering the Sith had placed a quarantine on the whole planet. In truth, I had doubts we could do either, though in fact we did.
It was not as easy as it seemed, though. Bastilia’s pod had crashed in the Lower City, and she had been captured by the Black Vulkar’s, a really nasty swoop gang. Basically Carth and I had to do alot of talking and a lot of killing. I had to enlist the sponsership of the opposing gang, called the Hidden Beks, and win a swoop race in order to free Bastilia, and even then it ended in a firefight. At least we got rid of the Vulkar leader!
In the meantime I also fought in the Upper City Cantina’s duel ring, which was a learning experience. I didn’t do too bad actually, but after beating Ice I had to call it quits. It’s a no-kill duel ring, but those stun blasts aren’t no joke, either. At least I earned some credits off the matches I won.
We also managed to survive the Undercity AND the sewers… let me tell you I will NEVER enter those sewers again. You couldn’t PAY me enough! We retrieved some rahtgoul syrum from a dead Sith patrol and gave to the doctor in the Upper City… I could have made some mega money off of selling it to the doc’s aid, Gurney, but the thought of the scum crimelord Davik Kang getting a hold of it just turned my stomach.
While down in the Undercity we ran into Mission, a spunky young Twi’lek kid who’d lost her Wookie friend Zaalbar. So it was into the sewers to rescue Zaalbar… but at least we found him. And Mission and Zaalbar have proven to be invaluable aid in our quest thus far, so I’m glad we ran into them.
I tell you, if anyone had ever told me what I’d be gettig into when I agreed to join the Republic forces, I think I would have laughed. Really. Who would have thought I’d be fighting swoop gangs, stealing accelerators, murking about in the sewers, guiding the people of the Undercity to the “Promised Land”, rescuing a Jedi, fighting a rancor, breaking into a Sith military base, taking on the most infamous bounty hunter, or dancing with a Twi’lek to help her get a job…!?!? Especially that last part…. hrm… I think maybe I’d had one two many ales that night… ? Well, the important part is it’s all in the past.
There’s so much else to tell, but I suppose I had better go and check on the rest of the crew. I know Carth is getting anxious to deboard, and Zaalbar I think is a little nervous about returning to his home planet, though I can’t imagine why. You’d think he’d be happy about that sort of thing…?
Well, I’m off then.
Jaya Evenstrider, signing out.
