I feel much better since that last post. I'm a lot more on track now than I was then. I only have one chapter left to write on my latest Mass Effect fanfiction, and then my cursed fanfic plot bunnies are being put away in a deep dark hole for awhile. Despite having written the last posted chapter of "Oligo" (I squeezed it out in about three days of marathon writing… hubby was not happy about being ignored but I needed it out of my system!), and sort of thinking about the next one, I've been working a LOT lately on Guardian Angel (GA), which was, of course, the goal. I don't have an exact word count for you since it's handwritten in my notebook, but I usually get in a page or two each time I sit down to work on it, which is mostly on lunch hour or briefly before bed. So not too bad for such a limited time.
I also found out loads of new info to use in GA thanks to a documentary on The Science Channel. I spent a lot of last weekend doing research and making notes. That always gives me a good feeling as I feel I'm getting the universe more fleshed out and organized. 😉
And, I found <lj user="yuki_onna">, who I promply added to my friends list. The more I learn about her and her books, the more of an inspiration she becomes. She's also awesome enough to answer my pestering questions. 😀 Alas, seeing all her cool looking fantasy stories makes me think fondly of Cheetah on the Roof, which has been neglected for the sake of GA in the past several months. I guess I just wasn't in a fantasy mood. It's starting to drift back to me again though, and I'm remembering the potential of CotR and why I originally decided to work on it first (which I'll get to in a minute). So I might be splitting my time between the two here shortly.
Which brings me to my next point. I have come to a conclusion. This is my opinion which I have based on observations and from my own experience. If you feel differently, by all means let me know what you think, but this is how I see it. Fiction novels, in terms of "popularity", which we will say means their potential to become bestsellers, seem to go in this order (from most likely to least likely):
1) Young Adult fiction
2) Fantasy
3) Other fiction
4) Scifi
And that sucks, because my one true love is scifi. On the other hand, I don't mind writing fantasy at all and a few of my upcoming ideas would, I suppose, be considered fantasy. Okay now that I think about it, scifi is being beat out by fantasy in my idea list, but STILL. Scifi is still my favorite. ^.^
Gee, that's kind of a strange realization about the ratio of fantasy to scifi in my ideas. Hrm.
I guess we'll just see what happens. But for now, progress on the novel front in general, which is always a good thing! More blah blah later… lunch hour is over…. 🙁
