::SONG:: by Lossefalme

*** A not quite as random song, this one came to me from an ad on the radio that said “peace of mind shouldn’t come with fine print” or something to that effect, and I thought “hey that would make a pretty cool song… only with love, instead of peace of mind, of course.” So here it is. I think there might be more to it but I haven’t had a chance to really think about it since. Written 10/20/04. ***

Fine Print
Well see I’ve found the problem
when you said “I do” you failed to mention
you’re love comes with paragraphs
of fine print

How was I supposed to know
of your secret plans to change me
Once I thought you loved me
for who I am
but now I see
your love comes with paragraphs
of fine print

And they say:
“I don’t compromise and I
don’t look back
I’m never satisfied
and I’ll point out all the qualities
you lack
Your opinion’s only second best
and you’d better learn to live with it
and I put you on a pedestal
long ago when we first met
but if you fail to meet all my expectations
I’ll knock you down and won’t feel bad
and…”

Well see I’ve found the problem
why I’m not the man you thought I was
You see you failed to mention
your love comes with paragraphs
of fine print
I thought you loved me for me
but now I see
you only loved me
for the man you thought you
could make me be

Your love comes with paragraphs
of fine print
Yah you failed to mention that
You don’t compromise and you
don’t look back
You’re never satisfied
and you’ll point out all the qualities
I lack
My opinion’s only second best
and I’d better learn to live with it
and you put me on a pedestal
long ago when we first met
but if I fail to meet all your expectations
you’ll knock me down and won’t feel bad
and…

Well see I’ve found the problem
When you said “I do” you failed to mention
your love comes with paragraphs
of fine print.
