So I Wrote THE END on a 500-page Novel … Now What?

On January 26th, 2015, I finished the rough draft of an original novel for the first time since 199-something. Yeah. That's like SEVENTEEN years in there. That's like ... half my lifetime in there. Almost the entire purpose of this blog for a long while now has been to get me to this point.  After college, and marriage, and motherhood, and ten years of fanfiction, and beginning this particular book in June of 2013 ... on January 26th, 2015, it finally happened. I. FINISHED. IT. Granted, ... View Post

NaNoWriMo The Third Was NOT The Charm: How I Survived My 3rd Year of November Noveling Madness

All righty. Here goes. The long-awaited NaNoWriMo 2014 recap post!  Nearly a month later, I think I'm recovered enough to tackle this, and I think I've had enough reflection time to determine what I need to improve upon next year. So, my dear fellow writerly people ... if you have accomplished NaNoWriMo yourselves, please do chime in with your comments on your own experiences.  And if you have not NaNo-ed before, but are considering doing so next year, please take my experiences here ... How "Following Your Dreams", or Doing What You LOVE in Life, is Like Running a Half-Marathon! (but not like running a full marathon, because I've never done that … that would just be crazy!)

A funny thing happened to me yesterday. I was told by a very lovely person (Zenobia Southcombe, to be precise - please do head over and check out her site!) that my "enthusiasm is so catchy"! This was very flattering, for two reasons. 1) I haven't actually felt all that enthusiastic about my life pursuits recently, so I was happy to know I hadn't outwardly let that bring me down all that much and 2) I'd actually been clinging to HER enthusiasm for HER life pursuits the last several days in an ... 500 TWITTER FOLLOWERS!!?!? NUH-UH! … How Twitter is Becoming My Own Favorite Social Media

Well my friends, I told myself when I reached 500 Twitter followers, I would have a party. Today, just about two minutes ago now, I hit that magic number.  I suppose this means I get to have a party!  What is your favorite kind of cake?  Let's have cake, yes?  Lots and lots of cake! Wait, what's that?  Why celebrate 500 followers? Oh. Good question. Well ... because.  500 is halfway to 1000.  500 is a nice, round, even number. 500 sounds cool. 500 is more than 100, or 200, or 300, or 400.  ... View Post

Camp NaNoWriMo Diaries: Days Nine to Fifteen – Editing Makes The Heart Grow Fonder

Dear Diary, I apologize for spilling that gin and tonic ... errr ... glass of Kool-Aid on you the other day.  I'm glad you are now dry enough to write in so that I can chronicle the most recent events of this year's July Camp! It has truly been a great Camp so far!  I'm happy to report that I, as well as the rest of my bunk mates, have largely stayed on track for the entirety of these past two weeks! There have been bad days, of course, but there have also been great days! In the past seven ... View Post

Camp NaNoWriMo Diaries: Day Eight – Is This Just an Endless Dream?

Dear Diary, Yesterday was Day Eight of Camp. And I wrote nothing.  And I edited nothing. And then lying in bed before sleeping, I began to think things, as always.  Just before sleep tends to be when I am either the happiest or the most depressed.  I either pump myself up over what is to come, or fret about it and stress myself out. Last night was the latter.  I did not fret about my non-existent word quota for the day.  No.  I went larger.  Much larger.  Because I thought back on a recent ... View Post
