Writing Prompt Wednesday: an excerpt from "The Good Thing", the NaNo Novel.

Another small piece, this one from Chapter 13 of the current WIP, the novel I hope to finish during NaNoWriMo… again, this is an extremely rough draft, written during 30-minute word sprints with some fellow members of my writing group!  Current word count for November as of this morning stands at 19,651.  - JRF *** Pavel hardly felt the hands locked around his biceps, hardly saw the nearness of the rifle muzzles to his face.  They led him out the front door, stumbling, mind and body numb.  ... Writing Prompt Wednesday: an excerpt from "The Good Thing", the NaNo novel.

A small piece from Chapter 12 (conveniently titled "Shit Hits the Fan" at the moment, ha) of the current WIP, the novel I hope to finish during NaNoWriMo... this is an extremely rough draft, and in fact I have hardly any recollection of writing this part at all, since I was in a writing coma at the time.  Seriously.  Regardless, I hope you enjoy. :)  -- JRF *** Vince waited. He waited, hunkered down behind the chicken coop, listening to his own rigidly-controlled breathing, to the pounding ... View Post

Writing Prompt Wednesday: "The First Crosswalker", a very short short story.

A new short story has been brewing in my head for the past few days.  So, for today's Wednesday Prompt, I decided to just jot down a random something in the universe of this new short story, featuring one of the main characters (the First Crosswalker).  Below is the result.  This is meant to be a type of backstory, I suppose, or maybe even a lead-in to what will be the actual story eventually.  Not entirely sure yet.  But I had a lot of fun with this, and I'm really looking forward to getting on ... Writing Prompt Wednesday: An excerpt from my WIP novel, "The Good Thing".

Following is an excerpt from Chapter 5 of my current novel WIP, a science fiction with a romance twist.  It was going to be submitted to the Quirk Books Looking For Love Contest, but will be nowhere near finished by the deadline.  The new goal for this one is to be finished with the entire rough draft by the end of December 2013.  Hope you enjoy this little snippet! *** “Hey, Sokolov!” Pavel jumped, spinning the chair around to see George himself standing there, his strawberry-blond hair ... Writing Prompt Wednesday: Excerpt from "The Good Thing"

Unfortunately, I'm so behind in my Camp NaNoWriMo word count for this contest entry novel that I can't afford to spend any time or words on anything outside of that project.  So for this week's Wednesday post, I have elected to share a small excerpt from that project.  The image here is model Sean O'Pry, my inspiration for the character Pavel Sokolov, who features in this excerpt.  This is a very rough draft, but I hope you enjoy!  :)   ***   “Oh look,” Vince said, his tone ... Writing Prompt Wednesday: Another excerpt from the novel!

Comments: Whoops!  Almost entirely forgot that today was Wednesday!  Today's snippet comes again from the novel-in-progress, a young adult fantasy entitled "Cheetah on the Roof".  I almost told you who this conversation was between, but decided that instead I would love to hear who you infer these people to be from the conversation itself!  Hope you enjoy!  And thanks for reading!  - JRF *** Arrelious smiled, looking up at him.  “And what do you think became of Lua Mater, Loremaster?” “I’m still ...
