On January 26th, 2015, I finished the rough draft of an original novel for the first time since 199-something. Yeah. That's like SEVENTEEN years in there. That's like ... half my lifetime in there. Almost the entire purpose of this blog for a long while now has been to get me to this point. After college, and marriage, and motherhood, and ten years of fanfiction, and beginning this particular book in June of 2013 ... on January 26th, 2015, it finally happened. I. FINISHED. IT. Granted, ... View Post

Writing Goals for 2015
And so begins the flood of "New Year's Resolutions" posts and tweets and status updates, etc, etc! But this year, I do not have resolutions. I have GOALS. And I'm going to try to be realistic with these goals, so as to not 1) discourage myself and 2) overwhelm myself. The psyche is a fragile thing, indeed. I survived my third year of National Novel Writing Month - barely. I then meditated on the question, "What am I doing? Is this worth it? Is this what I want to continue doing?" In the ... View Post

All righty. Here goes. The long-awaited NaNoWriMo 2014 recap post! Nearly a month later, I think I'm recovered enough to tackle this, and I think I've had enough reflection time to determine what I need to improve upon next year. So, my dear fellow writerly people ... if you have accomplished NaNoWriMo yourselves, please do chime in with your comments on your own experiences. And if you have not NaNo-ed before, but are considering doing so next year, please take my experiences here ... View Post
Music Monday: An Exploration of What Powers my Stories – "Silver Lining" by HURTS
When it comes to music, writers seem to be in one of two camps. Either they LOVE having music as a background to their story creation, or ... they HATE it, and must instead have absolute silence in which to concentrate. Personally, I'm in Camp A. I LOVE having music while I write, and always have. The louder and more epic, the better. I reach The Zone far more quickly and stay in it longer if I've got my headphones on and the music blaring. And since I started my current WIP about a year ... View Post
The Work-in-Progress Blog Hop: The Good Thing
Well! Nothing like a good ol' fashioned blog hop to force me out of my blogging hermit-hole!I have been tagged by the wonderful Jumping From Cliffs to participate in this thingy here, and this is how it works: The idea is I post the first line of the first three chapters of my current work-in-progress, then nominate four other bloggers to do the same.To follow in the tradition set forth by JFC and a few of the authors who were tagged before him, I am including the first line of my prologue as ...
