April and May 2015 Project Lists and April Bait, Fish, and Reel Report … COMBINED!

Why hello there! No, no, I didn't forget about you. I was just busy editing the novel and playing Dragon Age every free waking moment of April. But here I am at long last with another much-needed update! If you've been following along the last few months, you know that April was Camp NaNoWriMo and that I planned to edit my novel for at least 30 hours as my Camp goal. Thus, the Project List for April 2015 was rather simple: April 2015 Project List: Edit PRIMUS for at least 30 hours, ideally ... View Post

This Thing I Like to Call "Passive Editing" and How It Works…

Back in February I made a post outlining my Grand Master Plan for editing my 500+ page novel. Now it is April, and as some of you know, April is Camp NaNoWriMo. For Camp this year, I made the goal of spending 30 hours (or more) editing my novel for April. On April 1st, I began. In keeping with my Grand Master Plan, I am now in Phase One. Phase One involves what I've taken to calling "Passive Editing". Now, usually when I edit something, I go line by line and brutally analyze every single word. ... View Post

The Take-Away Message from Planet Comicon: THEY SAID "YES" (… but no, he did not go to Jared's …)

No, I am not talking about proposals, here. Or ... maybe I am. Just not the marriage type. The business type. More accurately, the OPPORTUNITY type. Over the weekend of March 13 - 15th, I attended Kansas City's local comicon, dubbed Planet Comicon, to be official. I was most excited about this year's first-time guest panelists to Planet, Nerd For a Living. So excited, in fact, I even took off work early on Friday JUST FOR THEM! Why do they deserve some of my vacation time? Because they are ... View Post

Project List for March 2015

And it's already a new month! WHERE is 2015 going already! Yikes! Quick, before it gets away from me, here are my goals for this month! Make another short story submission to a SFWA market. Keep up with the Before You Hit Send workshop and make sure to complete the mini-assignments, participate and ask questions! (DONE! Workshop officially ends on March 24th, but I did a good job with the assignments and asking questions for the last half, so I'm proud of myself! VERY useful, and I HIGHLY ... View Post

My Evil Grand Master Plan of Editing: An Uncertain Attempt to Manage the 500-page Novel Without Going Insane …

Most of you probably know that one does not simply write a book and then publish it. I hope.  *looks around suspiciously* Anyway, after 19 long months of slaving away over my novel Primus' rough draft, the next step is, of course, to edit the darn thing.  But it's so large, the idea of going through it line by line is somewhat, well ... overwhelming. But! I think I have a plan. A long time ago, I attempted to edit one of my finished rough drafts.  Basically, this editing attempt included me ... View Post

So I Wrote THE END on a 500-page Novel … Now What?

On January 26th, 2015, I finished the rough draft of an original novel for the first time since 199-something. Yeah. That's like SEVENTEEN years in there. That's like ... half my lifetime in there. Almost the entire purpose of this blog for a long while now has been to get me to this point.  After college, and marriage, and motherhood, and ten years of fanfiction, and beginning this particular book in June of 2013 ... on January 26th, 2015, it finally happened. I. FINISHED. IT. Granted, ... View Post
