Bait, Fish, and Reel Report September 2013
Someone once said that to be a successful and productive writer, one had to do the equivalent of “cutting bait, fishing, and reeling ‘em in, all at the same time”! This translates to writing as working on projects-in-progress while at the same time submitting completed projects to potential markets and also continuing to cultivate new ideas for future projects. In case you missed my previous post on this subject, at the end of every month I compile a list of what I accomplished as far as ... View Post
October the 4th Is Not Too Late
The title of this post is based on the title of the book "October the First Is Too Late", by Fred Hoyle. One of the many books of my late grandfather's which I read many years in the past, and thoroughly enjoyed. One of the books responsible for the fact I now write primarily in the genre of science fiction. It is also possibly partially responsible for my interest in science-y things in general. However, this post is not about it being too late. This post is specifically about the fact ... View Post
A Crash Course in Twitterdom, from an Admitted Twitterphobe.
Twitterdom and Twitterphobe? They're real words. Promise. Now I'll admit, I'm not that young. But then again, I'm not that old, either. I treasured my LiveJournal community (and still do, to be honest. I miss it something fierce!), and only crawled over to MySpace and then on to Facebook after much kicking and screaming. After that traumatic ordeal, I refused Twitter and later Tumblr. I only very recently gave in to Pinterest, life-sucking machine that it is. After learning how to ... View Post
Writing Prompt Wednesday: "The First Crosswalker", a very short short story.
A new short story has been brewing in my head for the past few days. So, for today's Wednesday Prompt, I decided to just jot down a random something in the universe of this new short story, featuring one of the main characters (the First Crosswalker). Below is the result. This is meant to be a type of backstory, I suppose, or maybe even a lead-in to what will be the actual story eventually. Not entirely sure yet. But I had a lot of fun with this, and I'm really looking forward to getting on ... View Post
Project List September 2013 (and a short digression on juggling and bulldogs)
I find that in this stage of the "Serious Writing Life", if you want to call it that, (and by this I mean the life in which I am actually taking serious forward steps in the direction leading away from "aspiring" and toward "published" and possibly even "career"), I seem to be a bit bi-polar. I have noticed recently I tend to soar up on extreme happy-highs and get super pumped and inspired, and then in the very same day (often the same damn hour, really), I suddenly plummet into a frustrated ...
