Writing Prompt Wednesday: An excerpt from my WIP novel, "The Good Thing".

Following is an excerpt from Chapter 5 of my current novel WIP, a science fiction with a romance twist.  It was going to be submitted to the Quirk Books Looking For Love Contest, but will be nowhere near finished by the deadline.  The new goal for this one is to be finished with the entire rough draft by the end of December 2013.  Hope you enjoy this little snippet! *** “Hey, Sokolov!” Pavel jumped, spinning the chair around to see George himself standing there, his strawberry-blond hair ... Bait, Fish, and Reel Report for August 2013

And here we go again! Someone once said that to be a successful and productive writer, one had to do the equivalent of “cutting bait, fishing, and reeling ‘em in, all at the same time”! This translates to writing as working on projects-in-progress while at the same time submitting completed projects to potential markets and also continuing to cultivate new ideas for future projects. In case you missed my previous post on this subject, at the end of every month I compile a list of what I ... View Post

Bait, Fish, and Reel Report for July 2013!

Honestly, this summer keeps trying to wriggle out of my grasp!  Well, I'm about to finally catch up with it, I think.... Project List for July 2013

Behind on posting this month, for two reasons.  1) I've entered a writing contest which consumes every free moment, details on the list below and 2) We lost our kitty of ten years very unexpectedly last Sunday, so I am still reeling from that.  There's a post dedicated to her in me somewhere, but I haven't managed to dig it out yet.  In the meantime, I'm going to stick to the cut and dry bulleted list, and will resume normal posting next month, or whenever I get my brain back together... ... Surviving NaNoWriMo: Tips and Tricks to Come Out of It Alive, If Slightly Less Sane

NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month, officially appointed to November, likely because NOVember begins much like NOVel.  Cute.  No one happened to think that November was a positively awful month to hold such a national event, namely because of the approaching holidays and the whole traveling and planning and stressing and food-comas and seeing-extended-family bits.  But despite all of this, November remains National Novel Writing Month and despite all of this, every year hundreds ... 1-800-BETS… ON?! How writing for publication is like gambling.

This post is about gambling.  But not the conventional type of gambling... there are no casinos or sports or races in this type of gambling (okay, well maybe you could call parts of it "racing"...!?).  THIS particular type of gambling refers to the gamble every individual who calls themselves a writer takes every time they send out something in the hopes of seeing it published somewhere. And recently I have come to the determination that if a person wishes to succeed in any way as a writer ... View Post
