The title of this post is based on the title of the book "October the First Is Too Late", by Fred Hoyle. One of the many books of my late grandfather's which I read many years in the past, and thoroughly enjoyed. One of the books responsible for the fact I now write primarily in the genre of science fiction. It is also possibly partially responsible for my interest in science-y things in general. However, this post is not about it being too late. This post is specifically about the fact ... View Post
Project List September 2013 (and a short digression on juggling and bulldogs)
I find that in this stage of the "Serious Writing Life", if you want to call it that, (and by this I mean the life in which I am actually taking serious forward steps in the direction leading away from "aspiring" and toward "published" and possibly even "career"), I seem to be a bit bi-polar. I have noticed recently I tend to soar up on extreme happy-highs and get super pumped and inspired, and then in the very same day (often the same damn hour, really), I suddenly plummet into a frustrated ... Bait, Fish, and Reel Report for July 2013!
Honestly, this summer keeps trying to wriggle out of my grasp! Well, I'm about to finally catch up with it, I think.... Bait, Fish, and Reel Report for April 2013
Someone once said that to be a successful and productive writer, one had to do the equivalent of "cutting bait, fishing, and reeling 'em in, all at the same time"! This translates to writing as working on projects-in-progress while at the same time submitting completed projects to potential markets and also continuing to cultivate new ideas for future projects. In case you missed my previous post on this subject, at the end of every month I compile a list of what I accomplished as far as ... View Post
"Cutting bait, fishing, and reeling 'em in, all at the same time!"
That's what someone said about what you have to do to make a living as a writer, although just precisely who said it is escaping me at the moment. When I remember, or if you know, please help jog my memory in the comments! It refers to having to write projects, edit projects, and submit projects all at the same time, so that you're not wasting precious time sitting around on your hands doing nothing productive. (Okay, let me rephrase, "doing nothing productive on your writing"... we all know ... View Post
