I wasn't really going to post any more snippets of the novel, but I recently had a rather nice request for more, and because I'm a softie, I have relented. Lol. This piece is from Chapter 20, the chapter I am currently writing. However, I actually wrote this back in November, and it's still one of my favorite scenes of the entire project to date. When I went back to reread and decide what to post today, I had to share this one. And honestly, seriously... I don't remember writing this AT ALL! Ha! ... View Post
Writing Prompt Wednesday: "Begin", an original poem.
You know, I wasn't going to make a post today. I was going to rebel against myself. Hunched over my computer all day for the day-job, my shoulders and neck were tense and knotted, my eyes burning from focusing on text too long. I was doing some eye-exercises to try and help relax them, looking out my window at the clouds and blue sky, and felt the tension start to ease... and then this began unfurling in my head, and I thought I should write it down. We could all use the reminder now and then, ... View Post
Writing Prompt Wednesday: 2 paragraphs from page 7!
Yes, today, I am being "lazy". Lazy in that I don't want this particular post to take up too much time, because I've only made my 1000 word/day goal about two days out of fifteen this month, and I plan on making it today! So. I happened to be tagged on Facebook by another author friend (Lisa Kumar, go check her out!) to post two paragraphs from page 7 of my current WIP yesterday, therefore, I've decided those two paragraphs will also be the stars of today's WPW! :) So, without further ado, ... Writing Prompt Wednesday: "Precious Metal", a sort of found poem.
This poem is sort of a lyrical summary of the article "Gold Fever" by Donovan Webster, from the February 2012 issue of Smithsonian. It is similar to a found poem in that I still chose words and phrases from the article to create something new, but I also added in some of my own words and phrases, and kept the point of the poem the same as the general (yet far more subtle) point of the article, which I usually don't do for my found poems. But, this article incensed me so much (even though I ... View Post
How Writing a Novel's Rough Draft is Like Taking a Really Long Road Trip…
Through No-Man's Land. In a foreign country. At night. With one headlight. And a dodgy map.... It goes something like this. Okay. I'm starting to get the hang of this now. I'm starting to know what to expect. I'm starting to figure out how to ride this bull. No wait, let's just stick with the road trip analogy. Less confusing that way. So. I've got a map of where I'm going and where I eventually need to be - that would be your vague outline, the one I suggested you create during ... View Post
Project List for January… 2014!!!!!
That's right people! It's a BRAND NEW FREAKIN' YEAR!!!!And I'm ready to KICK IT'S ASS!!! ;)How 'bout you?I really like New Year's Day. It's a new leaf, a fresh start, a clean slate, whatever other analogies you'd like to make. They're all true. But only if you mentally buy into it.And I just went ALL IN.2013 was a fantastic year for me personally, on all levels. I didn't sell nor publish a single thing, but my writing career has reached levels I am very proud of, and I fully plan on ... View Post
