Writing Pompt Wednesday: "Nightmare or Opportunity", a found poem.

by contrast, a hyper-functional machine increasingly quixotic expanding across the miles built largely on miracles - a foil to fake glitz global urbanization sprawling landfill inspired by spacious character not sustainable resistant to experimental work, threatening to locate the beauty in urban debris the ideal vision cooled - a toxic mix of nightmare... or opportunity? (From a Smithsonian magazine article on the architect Koolhaas.) ... View Post

Writing Prompt Wednesday: "The First Crosswalker", a very short short story.

A new short story has been brewing in my head for the past few days.  So, for today's Wednesday Prompt, I decided to just jot down a random something in the universe of this new short story, featuring one of the main characters (the First Crosswalker).  Below is the result.  This is meant to be a type of backstory, I suppose, or maybe even a lead-in to what will be the actual story eventually.  Not entirely sure yet.  But I had a lot of fun with this, and I'm really looking forward to getting on ... Project List September 2013 (and a short digression on juggling and bulldogs)

I find that in this stage of the "Serious Writing Life", if you want to call it that, (and by this I mean the life in which I am actually taking serious forward steps in the direction leading away from "aspiring" and toward "published" and possibly even "career"), I seem to be a bit bi-polar.  I have noticed recently I tend to soar up on extreme happy-highs and get super pumped and inspired, and then in the very same day (often the same damn hour, really), I suddenly plummet into a frustrated ... Writing Prompt Wednesday: An excerpt from my WIP novel, "The Good Thing".

Following is an excerpt from Chapter 5 of my current novel WIP, a science fiction with a romance twist.  It was going to be submitted to the Quirk Books Looking For Love Contest, but will be nowhere near finished by the deadline.  The new goal for this one is to be finished with the entire rough draft by the end of December 2013.  Hope you enjoy this little snippet! *** “Hey, Sokolov!” Pavel jumped, spinning the chair around to see George himself standing there, his strawberry-blond hair ... Bait, Fish, and Reel Report for August 2013

And here we go again! Someone once said that to be a successful and productive writer, one had to do the equivalent of “cutting bait, fishing, and reeling ‘em in, all at the same time”! This translates to writing as working on projects-in-progress while at the same time submitting completed projects to potential markets and also continuing to cultivate new ideas for future projects. In case you missed my previous post on this subject, at the end of every month I compile a list of what I ... View Post

Writing Prompt Wednesday: "Humanity's Potential", a found poem.

Last week, I was clued in to the existence of the amazing tychogirl by way of the awesome Jumping From Cliffs.  What I love about tychogirl's found poems is that she actually cuts and pastes the words onto gorgeous and relevant backgrounds, making the poems themselves doubly-incredible works of art.  In addition, she writes poems about space.  Um, brilliant! So, blatantly ripping a page from her book, I decided that this week's WPW post would feature 1) a poem dealing in some way with space ... View Post
