Writing Goals: Bait, Fish, and Reel Report for April 2016

I absolutely cannot believe it’s already May of 2016. I just cannot get my head around that at all.

Alas, time marches on and waits for no (wo)man.

Which writing goals did I accomplish in April 2016? Let’s find out!

Part of the reason I don’t remember much of April is because I managed to edit a total of 51,456 words in those 30 days. YOWZA! Granted, almost all of those words were for an editing client, but they are still words. I also managed to make pretty good progress on edits to Chapter 18 of PRIMUS … I was stuck there for a long while as the second most stubborn character in the book would NOT get in the damn car. She needed to get in the damn car, and she wouldn’t. And nothing anyone said would convince her otherwise. However, I finally managed to convince her, for now. So we’ll see how it all comes across when the beta readers get to that scene. WHEW.

I also dabbled a bit in edits to The Transference (Blackmarket Body 1), but E. Gads, I wrote that story back in 2014 or something like that, and it’s … well, it’s awful. There’s absolutely no deep POV for the main character, and it’s positively smeared with telling when it should be showing, causing a large lack of empathy or connection to the main character. It’s just an ugly mess, and I’ve been dreading whipping it into publishing shape. I am, however, eternally grateful to the two lovely ladies who edited it for me and pointed out the multitude of improvements to be made, as they are the people who made me into the editor I am today. (Here that, people? Now you know who to blame for my “editorial flogging” … !! 😉 ) I wish they were still editing, as their input has been absolutely priceless to the advancement of my writing craft.

*pauses for a moment of silence in reverence*

But, other than that, here is a run down of what I accomplished in April 2016, as compared to my original Project List for the month. All in all, not too shabby!

  • Complete final edits on anthology flashfic submission story based on beta reader feedback
  • Submit flashfic entry to Mischief Corner Books (done! 4.12.16)
  • Complete edits to final 48,000 words of client #2’s novel (done! 4.18.16)
  • Complete edits to Blackmarket Body Episode 1: The Transference (I decided to place the editing emphasis this month instead on my main project PRIMUS, although I did work on this a bit.)
  • Continue edits on scifi novel PRIMUS (currently almost finished with Chapter 18 of 37!)
  • Reserve spot with Kevin G. Summers for ebook formatting
  • Send mailing list exclusive freebie (EXCITING!!!) (Did not get this out in April, but it IS going out TODAY! If you’d like a gander at it, just drop your email HERE! I can’t WAIT to share!)
  • Continue watching course videos from Nick Stephenson and Tim Grahl (Don’t know where I’d be without these two!)
  • Continue reading “Your Connection Advantage” by Joyce Layman and “How to Make a Million F*cking Dollars” by Eric Sims
  • Send announcements and goodies to the fantastic people on all my lists!
  • Post something super special on Patreon for my patrons! (done! They got the NEARLY final draft of PRIMUS Chapter 4! 4.27.16)
  • Follow up with the awesome people I met at Wizard World last weekend (got swamped in word count deadlines … 🙁 )

How was your April? What did you get accomplished in life? Are you looking forward to SUMMER!?

How did you manage to do it all? You seem to get busier every month, and this is spring! Congrats and give yourself a pat on the back!

Aw thank you! I don’t really know how I did it all, lol. Just taking things one day at a time, I guess! 🙂 That’s the way to do it!
