by contrast,
a hyper-functional machine
increasingly quixotic
expanding across the miles
built largely on
miracles –
a foil to fake glitz
global urbanization
sprawling landfill
inspired by spacious character
not sustainable
resistant to experimental work,
threatening to locate the beauty
in urban debris
the ideal vision
cooled –
a toxic mix of
nightmare… or opportunity?
(From a Smithsonian magazine article on the architect Koolhaas.)

Ooh, this is my favorite of yours so far. 🙂 The Smithsonian articles seem to be making the best poems.

Hehe. I’m glad you enjoyed this one. I was reading through the article and words kept popping out at me, so I knew I had to make a poem off of it! It is true though, it does seem the Smithsonian articles are just perfect for these types of things. The language is very poetic already!
