On a 5:50am flight this morning, we had the pleasure of rising above the clouds just in time for the sunrise, which was particularly spectacular from our vantage point and the cover of clouds below. I was unable to get a picture of it, so I wrote a poem instead. Here is my attempt at capturing the amazingness of this experience….
***
a horizon of lavender clouds
brushes a blushing dawn
a sky colored with sherberts
stretching into a clear, hard blue
the color of Caribbean waves
the line between hard-defined
the lines below soft and blurred
from here a new perspective
drawn in purple and orange
gentle periwinkle mounds
thrown into sharp relief by
morning’s golden light
painted in hues of pink
their own cities in the sky
slowly broken down in
atmospheric currents
churning, sweeping, never still
a moving landscape
glimpsed so briefly at the start of day
can we, could we, chase the sun
and see it all again?

I like the imagery here. 🙂 I might even add a line or two about where you’re seeing this all from, just to make the poem a tad more specific and to give it some kind of focal point.

Hrm… good point! Didn’t even think about that! I will have to contemplate that and maybe play around with this some more. If I make it different enough, I could then submit it, woot! Lol. Thanks for the feedback!
