moments measured in
heartbeats and hugs
giggles
small fingers wrapped around
mine
smiles and tears
and lullabies
moments measured in
how many songs till snores
how many steps
and how many hours
not slept
moments measured in
laughs
sustained by love
and the laundry
never done
one mess to another
diapers and washcloths
shoes and clothes
always outgrown
moments measured in
pictures, snapshots
baby books only
half-complete
moments measured in
“I love you”s
and whispers
and the years pass on
we all come back
to all those moments
always treasured but
only sometimes remembered
memories
lost to time
lasting impressions
feelings
lullabies and whispers
giggles and tears
first steps and first teeth
first words and scraped knees
heartbeats and living
every moment.
