Writing Prompt Wednesday: Progress on short story "The Transference"

Comment: Today for my Wednesday writing, I completed 733 words on my current short story WIP, tentatively entitled “The Transference” for the moment, but previously called also “Blackmarket Body”.  I’m attempting to complete this before June 3rd so I can submit it to the Writer’s Digest Writing Competition.  Toward that end, wish me luck!  😛  I have included a small excerpt here for your reading pleasure.  Hope you enjoy!

Dimitrii smiled.  His teeth were remarkably straight.  “No, they wouldn’t have told you that.”  He stood from his plush recliner, walking over to a suddenly-appeared sideboard.  “Would you like a drink?”

Zachary blinked.  “Well, sure.  Whiskey?”

“Whiskey it is.  Your favorite or mine?”

Zachary blinked again.  “I don’t think I understand -”

Dimitrii hissed something in Russian, shaking his head.  “Roland was right, they really don’t know shit out there, do they?”

“Who doesn’t know what?”  Zachary shifted on his feet, looking around nervously.  But all he saw was more empty whiteness, everywhere.  Was it supposed to be like this?  They had never said, exactly…  Dimitrii pushed a tumbler of whiskey into his hand, distracting him from worrisome thoughts.

“The bloody doctors, the loony counselors.”  The man went back to his recliner, swirling his drink before taking a sip.  “See, the problem is nobody remembers what happened during a Transference once they wake up on the other side.”

I’d like to see the rest of this if/when you’re able to share the whole story. I’m not sure how the WD contests work with regards to sharing stories that are submitted or end up winning. If you -are- able to link back to the story after the contest, I’d like to read the rest of this. 🙂

I’m glad you enjoyed it and would like to see more! 🙂 I don’t know the rules either, I don’t recall even seeing them prefer unpublished stories, actually… but I am in need of a good beta reader who would be able to give me some feedback in a rather rapid manner, if you are interested! Lol. I’m going to be pushing it to get the thing done by Monday, but if I could finish it by Sunday afternoon say, would you by chance want to/have time to give it a read and let me know what you think by Monday? It will be a max of 4k words, hopefully less and more around the 3-3.5k mark. And of course I would be more than happy to return the favor for you if you ever want me too! Just let me know, because I would be thrilled to have you beta it for me!!
